Work
Are you employed?
Let your employer know about your situation as soon as possible.
Make an appointment with the occupational health physician. They will assess whether you are physically and mentally able to work, think along with you, and advise your employer.
If working alongside caring for your child becomes too demanding, discuss with your employer what is possible within your role and how you can make use of statutory leave arrangements, such as care leave. Talk about this with the occupational health physician as well.
A medical social worker can help you prepare for your meeting with the occupational health physician.
If you experience conflict with your employer or need advice, you can contact the medical social worker and the Parents and Work Consultation Hour of the Dutch Childhood Cancer Association.
Are you self-employed?
If you are self-employed and unable to work or can work less due to your child’s illness, you may be eligible for financial assistance for self-employed persons.
You can also read more about statutory leave arrangements in our brochure.
